Computerized embroidery needs outline capturing of color images and stitch filling. Embroidery machines can make stitch filling according to color blocks in different areas. Considering the character of stitching of embroidery machines and referring to color image morphology, this thesis puts forward multi-scale graphic outline capturing algorithm based on color embroidery pattern of HIS space. And a variety of edge detection algorithms were compared. Experiment results show that this method can effectively control impact of noise on images. And the effect of image capturing can meet requirements of embroidery patterns. View More

The Tenth International Conference on Electronic Measurement & Instruments ICEMI’2011 III. OUTLINE CAPTURING ALGORITHM A.A Partition of Color Blocks Based on stitch filling of patterns of embroidery machines, we divide images into blocks according to colours, i.e. quantify the three components of H, S and I under the HIS coloured model. There are two sorts of quantification methods at present: uniformly-spaced quantification and non-uniformly-spaced quantification. Uniformly-spaced quantification makes uniformly- spaced partition of each component in its own domain. For example, tone H (0-360) can be divided equally into 6 portions and every 60 consist of one portion which can be divided into 6 categories, i.e. six-dimensional characteristic quantity. Because people have uneven perception of tone when seeing them, capturing characteristic quantity by non-uniformly-spaced quantification is a common method. Non-uniformly -spaced quantification can divide tone’s H space into 8 portions and saturation S and brightness I space into 3 portions according to people’s ability of visual recognition and determine accuracy of non-uniformly-spaced quantification of tones according to different ranges of the three components, people’s perception and wave length and frequency range of different colours. mages have various methods to express their colours, in which the HIS coloured model consisting of chrome, saturation and brightness is easy to be recognized by naked eyes. This model divides colours into three characteristics: (1) tone or hue H which can express various kinds of colours such as RGB; (2) saturation S expressing degree of brightness of colours; (3) brightness I expressing degree of lightness. These three characteristics are the three basic qualities of colours that can be described by the following double six-rowed cone showed in figure 1. The HIS space is comprised of a vertical brightness axis and coloured dots on a triangle perpendicular to the axis. For any coloured dot, its H correspondingly point to the included angle formed by the vector of this dot and axis I, its S is proportional to the length of the vector pointing to this dot and its I is proportional to the distance between the plane of the dot and the bottom black dot.
